We believe in a free market economy, but if the American consumer has the opportunity to buy American made goods at a similar or cheaper price than foreign made goods, the American consumer will support American made goods.

The difficulty for the American consumer is easily researching American made products.  The goal of My American Goods is to provide an easy and entertaining guide for a wide variety of products for the internet user to research so that individual can make an informed decision.

If you have a company that should be listed, let us know! Help us support companies with American ideals, American roots and provide jobs.

The point of MyAmericanGoods is for consumers to be able to research manufacturing companies and how beneficial the company is to American interests. Not just whether a company sells its products here, but also if they have an impact on how the United States does business. First off, globalization is a good thing. Globalization has allowed companies worldwide to improve products while cutting costs which benefits the consumer. However, just like we're finding out about our credit markets and financial engineering, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. We're not here to pass judgment, but we believe that we've eroded our manufacturing at the expense of our middle class. Yes, globalization benefits the consumer greatly and will weed out companies that are making products that are not as good or as cost effective. But what about the companies that are making good products that are the same price or cheaper? What if the consumer thought they were buying an "American" made product when the company relocates its manufacturing abroad? These are the questions we want to help answer in this website.

Not too long ago it was easier to figure out. 40 years ago, if you bought a Ford car, the steel would be sourced at a US steel mill, plastic moldings would be at a US molding injection plant, leather tanned in the US and the pieces were put together in the Midwest. Now, you can buy a US car made in Mexico and a Japanese car made in Indiana. So, it's a bit more complicated. What's better? Well, that's a matter of opinion. Do you want to benefit American workers by buying a foreign car made here in the US or an American company that makes cars abroad? From an economic point of view, the main benefit goes back to where the company is headquartered. Sure, there may be infrastructure improvements wherever the plant is, but generally the higher paying jobs and bonuses go to back to the homeland. That's not to say there isn't a tremendous benefit to a Subaru plant in Indiana or a BMW plant in South Carolina. Just ask the workers there. Therefore, we should celebrate and embrace foreign ownership in establishing and investing in the United States as well.
